The Program
Campers choose their own activities for the week from arts and crafts, sailing, canoeing, pontoon boating, archery, hiking, soccer, tennis, basketball, fishing and volleyball. Ropes and challenge course is available for an additional fee.

All campers are required to participate in our daily swimming program. Campers are tested on the first day of camp and placed in groups according to skill level. Waterfront activities are carefully supervised by staff who are American Red Cross certified, and all swimming and safety rules are strictly enforced.

Campers are assigned to cabins by age and may request to bunk with one friend. We can guarantee placement together ONLY if that camper has requested you as a cabin mate. To ensure that bunkmates receive the same week, please mail registration forms in the SAME envelope. Our largest cabins hold 16 campers and the smallest 10; there are two counselors per cabin.

The staff at Lourdes Camp has a sincere interest in each camper’s needs and is chosen on the basis of character, sensitivity, responsibility, specific skills and the ability to relate to children on an individual basis. They must also have a sense of humor!

Spirituality
During their stay, campers are encouraged to make friends, enjoy life and appreciate God’s gift of nature. Grace is said at the flagpole before breakfast, lunch and dinner. All staff and campers return to the Chapel after evening activities and before taps for a story and prayer. Mass is held once a week.

Ropes and Challenge Course
(Preregistration is required.)

The 18 elements of the course involve trust falls, climbing, swinging, balancing and lifting. The nine low elements require participants to plan strategies, explore solutions, work cooperatively, listen and trust each other. The nine high elements (25 to 50 feet off the ground) are more of a personal challenge and remembered by campers because of the drama, anxiety, fear and exhilaration experienced. All activities are “challenge by choice.”

There is an additional fee of $50.00 per week for participation in the ropes and challenge course, with a limit of 60 campers per week. Participants must be at least 11 years old.

Physical/Health History—BRING THE HEALTH FORM WITH YOU TO SUNDAY REGISTRATION.
New York State law requires a physical exam within 24 months of your child’s last day at camp. (Physical must be conducted by physician, nurse practitioner or physician’s assistant.)

Parent or guardian must sign form.

Immunization record is required.

The insurance information is essential in case of emergency or accident requiring a visit to the doctor.

If we DO NOT possess a completed and signed health form your child will not be able to attend camp.

Health/Safety
We have an infirmary with a resident nurse in charge of medications and first-aid needs. A local doctor and hospital is available on a 24-hour basis for consultations with our nurse.

Please send only prescription medications to camp with your child. Medications must be in the original container or we cannot dispense.

All medications are kept at the infirmary. Campers requiring an inhaler or “puffer” for breathing ailments are allowed to keep these items with them—this is the only exception.

We supply appropriate over-the-counter medications for common ailments and illnesses. Please do not send any to camp.

All medications are returned to parents on Saturday.

Parents are contacted by the nurse or director if a camper’s illness or injury requires treatment by a physician.

If you will be away during your child’s stay at camp (vacation, business, etc.) please leave us the appropriate phone numbers.

Lourdes Camp
Lourdes Camp, Inc., is required by law to be licensed for operation by the Onondaga Health Department, Bureau of Environmental Sanitation. On-site inspections take place at least twice each summer. Records of these inspections are on file at the County Health Offices, P.O. Box 190, Syracuse, NY 13215.

Also the camp is accredited by the American Camp Association. We have volunteered to adhere to a set of guidelines pertaining to health and wellness, programming, human resources, strategic planning, transportation, and food service.

The ACA guidelines help us to maintain a nationally recognized standard and to provide the best camp program we can. Every three years the ACA visits camp to observe and "grade" our camp program.
